The monthly South Hunterdon Regional School District (SHRSD) Board of Education meeting is tonight at 7pm at the High School.

The meeting is being live streamed as well. Go here for the livestream at 7pm.

Given that we are in mid-summer, things are very slow with the district right now, so not much to report.

The turf field has a change order, increasing the costs to an eye-popping $1,724,979.40 in total. The change order totals an additional $28,164 for the project, which required an extra 289 man hours to fix the sub-grade for the field.

This is on top of the nearly $2 million spent several years ago adding the track, all for a school district with continuuing declining student population. The High School is down to just 244 students. If you subtract the "choice" students coming in from out of district, we are down to only about 185 local students. To put this in perspective, this turf field will cost over $9,300 per student.

Another item of note is the release of the district Guidelines for use of Generative AI. The district will be exposing AI to kids starting at the K-4 level via the "media specialist". At the 5-8 grade levels, access will be expanded and allowed direct use in grades 7 and 8.
